We're worth it

Further to Annette McGullion's letter (16 May), I felt she took both Helen Wright's and my name in vain. My original letter (25 April) was concerned with the low pay and status of teaching assistants, and I pointed out that my extra qualifications gained me no extra in my pay packet. Where else would you be expected to become more and more qualified without gaining something extra, whether it be more pay or promotion?

Ms McGullion appeared to imply that those who complain about teaching assistants' pay were just 'money-grabbing'.

Since writing my original letter I have secured a job elsewhere, but not out of the childcare sector. I shall be a playleader, where my qualifications count for something (as I have gone into the job at the top end of the pay scale). I feel that now my hard work, studying for an NVQ 3 and a degree, will be put to some use.
