'The Way They Were' brings older relatives and members of the communityinto nurseries, playgroups and pre-schools to help promote healthyeating. The idea originated with Age Concern South Lakeland, who weregranted funds from the Fit as a Fiddle Lottery Award.
Community artist Nicki Smith has been employed to run the projectthrough all the local childcare settings over the next four years.
Ms Smith said, 'It's an intergenerational project about healthy eating,the sharing of ideas, passing recipes down through the generations.We're targeting three- to four-year-olds in particular. The main push isto encourage a love of food.'
Sessions include jam tart-making with grandmothers, clay modelling, anda show-and-tell of old cookery equipment.
