Youth organisations campaign against use of Mosquito

A coalition of youth organisations is campaigning to end the use of the Mosquito, a device emitting high-pitched, painful noise which can only be heard by people under 25.

The Buzz Off campaign is supported by Liberty, Groundwork, the NationalYouth Agency, and Sir Al Aynsley-Green, Children's Commissioner forEngland. Sir Al said, 'These devices are indiscriminate and target allchildren and young people, including babies, regardless of whether theyare behaving or misbehaving. The use of measures such as these is simplydemonising children and young people.' The Mosquito device is intendedto prevent anti-social behaviour and disperse groups of young people. There are an estimated 3,500 operating in the UK.
