Letter of the week

GIVE PARENTS CHOICE

I agree entirely with the letter from Little Harriers Nursery in Cranleigh (2 July).

We have written to our nursery parents to inform them that from September 2010 we will pulling out of the NEG, as we can no longer adhere to the increasing strictures made by the Government to apply them to our nursery. Our nursery is attached to a prep school and as such we are a business, even though we are a charity and do not make a profit payable to shareholders etc. It is becoming increasingly difficult to make ends meet.

The Government is encouraging further training to increase the knowledge base for early years practitioners, but there are no further payments in the funding to cover the increased cost of maintaining the newly qualified staff who, quite rightly, request a pay increase in recognition of their achievement.
