We are a small committee-led playschool with huge problems of staffing and a non-supportive attitude from the committee. Several people have resigned. We have been told that without a chairperson the setting will have to close. We know the chair cannot resign without having a new chair to take over but they are resigning regardless (that is the attitude we are dealing with). We are wondering if we can take over the setting and run the whole thing ourselves. Can we do that and where do we start?

If you are a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance they can help.It is possible for the staff to take over, but the 'old' playgroup mustbe sold off first. They can sell to the staff, but it has to be doneright because the accounts will have to go to the Charities Commission.Even if you aren't a member they might give you some advice, but beaware they can sometimes push for you to remain a committee run settingrather than change. Good luck.

I am a nursery nurse in a school and I get 16,536 and schoolholidays all paid too. I have had the NNEB qualification since 1993 andI stand strong that all childcare workers with the correct qualificationand experience should get paid tonnes better.
