Opinion: In My View - We jacks of all trades

Careers & Training
A girl came up to me in the nursery and asked, 'How do you kiss a turtle?' I was surprised and a bit worried. First, because she wanted to know how to kiss one, and second, because, out of all the staff, she felt that I was most likely to know!

While working at various nurseries I've rounded up sheep, forded streams and climbed over barbed wire fences with children while being lost somewhere in the countryside, and I have tried to persuade a German lady that our nursery garden wasn't a public park.

I've narrated a play, paraded though town dressed as Mr Tickle, played an elf to help Santa deliver presents, helped run jumble sales and organised sports days. During an ordinary working week I sing, dance, pretend to be animals, make dens under tables, cook, garden, make things, play games and much more.

Do plumbers get to do stuff like that? How about office workers or people building electrical equipment? Childcarers have one of the most varied, interesting, fun and unpredictable jobs. That's why I think it's one of the best careers. When was the last time a dentist was asked for reptile dating advice?
