A 28m package of initiatives will build on developments alreadyunderway across the city via the Building Schools for the Future scheme,which aims to locate specialist schools alongside mainstream ones.
The extra funding will used to improve the early assessment of SENchildren through designated Sure Start centres and associated earlyyears providers.
Other key parts of the package include relocating children from theGrange School, which caters for children with autism spectrum disorder,to purpose-built facilities. Pupil numbers will rise from 70 to 150 andthe school will provide short break day facilities and residentialfacilities for up to ten children and young people out of school.
The Lancasterian School in West Didsbury will become a 75-placespecialist support school for physical disabilities and problems withcommunication and interaction, catering for children from three to 16years of age.
