Baby activities on offer to boost healthy eating

Nurseries could encourage healthy eating in babies and toddlers with a scheme launched by food company Ella's Kitchen.

As part of the Ella's Explorers Feed Our Senses initiative, the company is offering free activity packs linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage to 12,000 nurseries that care for children aged from four to 18 months.

Included in the packs are sensory games, songs and ideas for making mealtimes fun and encouraging the development of children's five senses so they can recognise and enjoy the different smells, tastes and textures of a range of healthy foods.

It is hoped that the initiative will foster good eating habits in children that can last a lifetime.

The new scheme also supports Ella's Kitchen's work with the University of Reading and Henley Business School on research into babies' and toddlers' sensory development and how it influences their eating habits and food preferences.
