The Co-operative Childcare is to open its first setting in Worcestershire in November.
The group has bought the former Edward Parry Centre, a community centre in Kidderminster owned by Worcestershire County Council.

A £700,000 refurbishment programme is currently underway to convert the centre into a children’s nursery offering 117 places and creating 34 jobs.

The new nursery, which will open 52 weeks a year from 7.30am to 6.30pm, is the Co-operative Childcare’s first setting in Worcestershire

It brings the total number of nurseries owned by the Co-operative Childcare to 48, providing more than 3,000 childcare places.

The Edward Parry Centre, which previously hosted a day nursery run by the council, will be completely remodelled inside, with rooms being made bigger and airier and a new kitchen fitted.

As part of the group’s refurbishment programme, two gardens are also being created, along with large indoor learning and play areas.

The new nursery is expected to open in November.

The Co-operative Childcare’s group manager Mike Abbott said, ‘We are excited about our Kidderminster nursery as we wish to serve the local community. We already have a strong membership base here and a significant trading presence through our food stores, post office, pharmacy, travel and funeral businesses.

‘Our investment in this site demonstrates our commitment to meet the needs of local families for early years care and learning delivered by a trusted provider. We believe every child deserves the best start in life and our team will provide the early education and care that will help them develop to the best of their abilities.’

Just last month the Co-operative Childcare bought the City of Wolverhampton College’s three nurseries. Prior to this, it acquired the Petit Enfant nursery chain of four settings, the Places for Children chain of eight settings, and the two Banana Moon Nurseries.
