Spotlight on ... Claire Macina, Childminder, Ilkley

Careers & Training
Name: Claire Macina

Position: Childminder from Ilkley, West Yorkshire

Why did you decide to organise a charity bike ride for Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford?

My mum has been living with cancer for 14 years and has had many stays at the hospice in Bradford. The bike ride was the idea of Ruth Hargreaves, who owns JD Cycles in Ilkley and has done a similar ride before. However, it was my idea to get 100 women to take part, each raising £100.

When is the bike ride?

It is on 17 July next year. So far 20 women have registered their interest to take part in the 100-mile round trip from Ilkley to Selby.

Have you started doing any training for the event?

Every time we have a family day out, I cycle there and my husband drives. I also go cycling with one of the mums of the children I mind each week in preparation for the Marie Curie charity ride we are doing in India next November.
