Spotlight on ... John Hall and Suzanne Hardy, nursery assistants

Name: John Hall and Suzanne Hardy

Position: Nursery assistants at Guilden Sutton Day Nursery in Chester, Cheshire

- Why did you do a 35-mile sponsored walk?

The walk was to raise money for improvements to the nursery garden, which really needs spending on it. We're both into walking and thought a sponsored walk would be a good challenge - however, no-one actually believed we would do it!

- How did the walk go?

It went really well. We started at 5.45 am, when it was dark, and it took us 11 hours to walk the 35 miles from Market Drayton, Shropshire, to the nursery. After the first 16 miles it started to get difficult and we began to struggle. Fortunately, we were spurred on with supportive phone calls throughout the day, including one from the children at the setting.

- How much do you hope to raise?

Our target is £500, which would pay for wicker teepees for the nursery garden and sensory plants. The walk was the easy bit; doing up the garden will be a lot harder.
