Don’t let any dips in the weather put you off from continuing to tend to your garden

Last month, the weather was slow to warm up and our garden at Snapdragons Keynsham has suffered a little from lack of sunshine. Some of the earlier seeds that we had planted directly outside have only just appeared or have failed completely.

Undaunted, we are resowing beetroot and carrots and continuing to sow salad crops, such as rocket and pak choi, which should take off quickly in the June sun.

Garden duty

Radishes, beetroot, pak choi, mixed salad leaves and watercress can all be sown in prepared seed beds now. Choose a slightly shady spot to protect the leaves from heat and drought.

Continue or start sowing beans and peas, staking with bamboo for support. Lean the stakes towards each other at the top and bind with twine.
