Childminding UK is delighted that the Government is promoting childminding as a career after the huge decrease in the number of childminders.

Why become a childminder?

Childminding used to mainly attract mums, new to childcare, who chose childminding as a family-friendly way of earning extra money while being able to spend time with their own children, or saw childminding as a starting point. For some, they aim to only childmind for a few years before returning to their previous career. Others use their time childminding to gain experience before retraining to move into other fields such as teaching, social work or expanding to open a group childcare setting. For some, they continue as childminders for many years, even if that wasn’t their first objective.
