The Inspection Journey part 5 - Determined to improve

Make your good practice better with a step-by-step plan outlined by Laura Henry and Beth Harris that can be owned by the whole staff team and guided by the aim of improving outcomes for children.

Every setting should complete an improvement plan, as it allows them to focus on what they need to develop to improve the outcomes for children.

First, you need to decide your key priorities for the coming year. You may have noted down actions from your SEF, you may have actions/recommendations from your last inspection report to address, and/or actions/recommendations from reports from your local early years team and independent consultants.

It is helpful for a setting to look at its Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats - a SWOT analysis. This will help to focus on what your key strengths and weaknesses are, what opportunities are available and what threats there are to the setting. Cross referencing improvements/actions with your various sources will give you a clear indication of what your priorities should be.
