10m subsidy for childcare support

Disadvantaged parents across Scotland are to receive 10m of funding to help them with their childcare costs so they can access training and employment. The Scottish Executive said it hoped the investment would assist parents on low incomes, lone parents and families who are vulnerable due to disabilities, mental health problems or substance abuse. Ten local authorities will be able to use the money to subsidise childcare and direct parents towards flexible providers that can help during the evenings or holiday periods.
