Coloured paper, pens, pencils, crayons, examples of mehndi patterns - the elaborate henna decorations drawn on to the hand at Asian weddings and special events (see Resources, pages 18-19).
Play suggestions
* Children love to draw around their own hands. Encourage them to decorate templates of their hands either in mehndi style or in other ways such as with rings, stencils, tattoos or gloves.
* Remember the best way to encourage children to engage in an activity is to participate yourself. If they see an adult sitting at a table concentrating on a piece of work, they will eagerly join you!
