A call to standardise school holidays across Scotland

A call to standardise school holidays across Scotland will be discussed by ministers and local authorities, after it was agreed by Holyrood's Public Petitions Committee on 29 June. The petition urging the Scottish Executive and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities to review school holidays was proposed by John MacLeod, a father of two school-age children from Edinburgh. It states, 'This petition is necessary in order to resolve the uncertainties that arise among families each year vis-a-vis school holidays that vary from area to area throughout Scotland. As Scotland is a small country it should be possible for school children, families and relatives to get the chance to come together when they like at suitable times that completely fall within the Scottish school holidays.' The committee will now write to the Scottish Executive and the local authorities' organisation CoSLA.
