A child's transition from nursery setting to school can sound an easy process, but as many nursery managers know it isn't always so simple.

Managers need to implement some careful forward planning to ensure the best possible school start for children in their care.

A transition plan should be two-fold: informing the reception teacher about the child's history and development to date while allowing the child and family to become familiar with the new school and teacher.

Children who have attended a childcare setting will already have had some experience of transition when they made the move from a home setting to a nursery one, and this will have helped smooth the forthcoming move.
