A pocket guide to buying and fitting a child's car seat

A pocket guide to buying and fitting a child's car seat has been produced by the Government's Think! Road Safety campaign in an attempt to ensure that drivers with young children in the car check that seats are fitted properly before every car journey. Among the advice is never to fit a rear-facing seat where there is an active airbag in front of it. In the year 2000, 11 children aged nought to four died in car accidents, 185 were seriously injured and 2,837 slightly hurt in England alone. Road safety minister David Jamieson said, 'Children are still at risk of being killed and injured in cars because they are not properly restrained. Even on the shortest journeys, time spent checking could prevent the horrendous consequences of a serious accident.' The guide can be downloaded from the website www.think.dtlr.gov.uk.
