Almost six in ten child deaths from epilepsy in the UK were 'potentially or probably avoidable', an audit by Epilepsy Bereaved and funded by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has found. The audit also found that the care provided was deficient for more than three-quarters of children with epilepsy due to inadequacies in drug management, investigation or access to specialist care. David Pink, audit programme director at NICE, said, 'NICE will use the findings of this audit to inform other areas of its work, including a clinical guideline on the management of epilepsy in children and adults that will be distributed to the NHS in England and Wales.'
