Q A parent wants us to ban children who have not been immunised, arguing that babies (not yet fully immunised) are at risk. I am anxious that it impedes human rights, and operationally it could be quite difficult to prove what the parents have said.
A The National Daycare Standards require providers to promote the good health of children and to take positive steps to prevent the spread of infection. This includes having a clear policy about the exclusion of children who are ill or infectious. However, no mention is made of immunisation, which is a controversial area on which parents hold firm but varying views.
