Back-up is essential

I am the manager of an after-school club as well as a registered childminder. I greatly support Ofsted's unannounced visits. I read with combined horror and amusement the letter from a club with a poor Ofsted report (Letters, 18 August). It confirms the need for any club or organisation to be ready with back-up plans should unforeseen circumstances occur. Decisions have to be made by the club manager in order to prevent a catalogue of events happening, as described by the writer.

I have a list of people prepared to help at short notice and would not rely on someone travelling a distance by motorway to ensure ratios were met.

Motorway journeys can be delayed at the best of times and no-one should be in the position of 'dashing', as the writer states, in order to reach their destination.
