Many picture book writers enjoy working with young children, and a visit from a 'real live author' can offer fantastic opportunities to get both children and parents enthused about stories.

Seeing that a real person writes books, sharing in their excitement about words, and listening to a skilled storyteller are all invaluable learning experiences. Many authors who work with young children are as passionate about early literacy goals as they are about creative writing, and will be happy to fit in with your agenda - for example, focusing on the fact that a story has a beginning, middle and end, counting 'how many' pages, or helping the children to explore rhyme or rhythm. So, if you have any requests regarding your curriculum planning, don't hesitate to discuss them with the author in advance.
