CACHE wants say in care standards review

Ofsted plans to review the national standards for daycare and childminding in a year's time, the chief executive of the Council for the Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) told delegates at its annual general meeting. During the meeting in London two weeks ago, Richard Dorrance set out CACHE's vision for the qualification standards it would like to see in place and said the national standards in England had gone a long way towards embracing it. He said he hoped that when Ofsted reviewed the standards they would include the following points: every new entrant should have undertaken nationally accredited preparatory training; everyone should have a training plan and a programme of continuing professional development; everyone should have achieved an appropriate qualification within at least five years; and no-one should be in charge of a setting or in sole charge of a child without both relevant experience and a Level 3 qualification.
