After a course taster, Ms Kinsey's high expectations were met. 'For me personally, one of the most interesting areas was developing an appreciation of the way children think,' she says. 'All children are different, and the course provided guidance on how to set up activities in a way that appeals to a cross-section of young children. Even though I am a parent myself, there were a lot of things I hadn't been aware of. As a practitioner you have to learn to deal with children who may be very different to your own.
'Other aspects of the course which were very useful were the health and safety units. These enable the student to look at a variety of settings and effectively evaluate what needs to be in place to provide a safe environment.'
