Case Study - Level 4

Penny Modena is currently waiting to hear whether she has passed the second half of her level 4 Certificate in Early Years Practice, through the Open University. If so, she will be gearing up to study for an Early Years foundation degree. 'As far as working mothers are concerned, the timing for the course was excellent, stretching from February through to October,' she says. 'All in all it has given me a lot of confidence. I even feel calm about the prospect of a forthcoming Ofsted inspection of the Montessori nursery in which I work.

'The course itself involves a lot of reflective work and encourages the student to question the how and the why of their own settings. It looks at the different approaches of a variety of practices and this helps to broaden perspective. Key areas covered include dealing with parents, how colleagues work together and how children learn. The course provides plenty of food for thought when it comes to ways in which you can effectively support their learning.
