Eco award for conservation

A nursery school in Edinburgh is leading the way for environmentally friendly activity. St Leonard's Nursery School became the first nursery in Edinburgh to win the Green Flag award from the Eco Schools Programme in June for its efforts to improve the environment, encourage citizenship and promote healthy lifestyles among pupils and local community members.

St Leonard's Nursery School became the first nursery in Edinburgh to win the Green Flag award from the Eco Schools Programme in June for its efforts to improve the environment, encourage citizenship and promote healthy lifestyles among pupils and local community members.

Nursery children have learned how to save on energy and water, how to make use of the school's composting system and how to recycle.

Head teacher Clare McCusker said, 'We have limited resources - why waste them? We get the children to bring in recyclables from home and use them here. Also, leftovers are taken to be recycled.'
