Families: Financial advice starts in pregnancy

Pregnant women are to receive advice on how to budget under a scheme devised by the Financial Services Authority.

The Parent's Guide to Money will be distributed by midwives to mothersin the early stages of pregnancy through a range of outlets, includingchildren's centres, when it is rolled out nationally this summer. Itgives advice on budgeting, welfare benefits and the cost of childcareand covers issues such as maternity leave and child trust funds.

A report on trials of the pack said, 'The most common benefits mentionedwere alerting readers to benefit entitlements and prompting them tothink about saving and budgeting.'
