Families with children

Families with children comprised nearly one third of the 22,908 people helped last year by the homelessness charity Shelter. The worst affected areas were London and the East Midlands. Shelter director Adam Sampson said the charity saw 'thousands of families with children every year who are experiencing the terrible hardship of bad housing and homelessness'. Shelter has called on the Government to keep its commitment to end the practice of using bed and breakfast accommodation as temporary housing for homeless families by March 2004.
