Fit for a queen

The Queen's Golden Jubilee may need to be explained to children - while doing so the event offers opportunities for a wide range of activities. Carolyn Price has some ideas Adult-led activities

The royal family

The royal family has been under the media spotlight in recent weeks and will return again to great public attention with the start of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations from 1 to 4 June.

Events will be held across the UK in the summer and in Commonwealth countries around the world. Many people will organise street parties and local events.

This project aims to help young children understand the monarchy and the purpose of the forthcoming celebrations. It also offers opportunities to teach that family life has a basic pattern, however rich or famous and regardless of where families live.
