Four leaders chosen for new care regulators

Four women have been appointed to lead the two organisations which are to take over the regulation of childcare provision and the early years workforce. The Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care will take over responsibility for regulating private day nurseries, playgroups, cr ches, childminders and out-of-school clubs from local authorities in April 2002. It will also regulate adult care services and children's residential care.

The convenor of the committee which heads up the Commission will be Mary Hartnoll, a former director of social work at Glasgow City Council and currently an independent assessor of the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. The chief executive of the Commission, who will report to Ms Hartnoll, is Jacquie Roberts, currently director of social work at Dundee city council.
