Planned learning intention

Personal, social & emotional development

Resources

Paper, card, crayons, felt-tipped, pens, paint, collage materials, glue

Step by step

* Show the children a patchwork quilt, or a picture of one, and explain how they can work together to create a paper 'quilt' of their own.

* Make a template of a shape from a card

(square, diamond, hexagon or any shape which tessellates) and cut our one shape from paper for each child in the group.

* Show the children how their sheets of paper will fit together to form a quilt.

* Ask the children to draw and colour a picture on their paper. This could show something that is important to them, such as a member of the family, favourite toy or pet.
