Voluntary sector organisations that support London's most vulnerable children were targeted for funding cuts under the London Councils' grant scheme last month (News, 12 October).
London Play, a voluntary organisation promoting inclusive play opportunities for children across London, was among the areas considered 'not a priority' by the executive. As a result, it faced closure (News, 19 October).
But following a meeting last week, the Leaders Committee of London Councils decided to reinstate a number of voluntary sector activities in London as 'priority areas', including 'second tier support to promote play'.
Director Dr Ute Navidi said, 'While awaiting confirmation on how this will impact on us, we feel a degree of funding predictability has been returned to our organisation. We want to thank everyone who supported our efforts to keep London Play alive.'
