Children's services cut

Voluntary sector organisations that support London's most vulnerable children are being targeted for funding cuts under the London Councils' grant scheme.

According to the office of the Mayor, overall cuts of up to 9m have been proposed by the London Councils grants executive.The main bulk of the unplanned cuts will affect services for children and young people, which are among the areas considered 'not a priority' by the executive.

London Councils, which changed its name last week from the Association of London Government, is a 27m grant-giving scheme funded and governed by the capital's 32 boroughs and the Corporation of London. More than 400 pan-London voluntary groups are funded under the scheme, 68 of which provide services for children across London.
