Go for it

Now is the time to look for a nanny position before summer starts. Helen Kewley gives advice for successful job-hunting When I visit the colleges to talk to students who are about to qualify, I find that while many of you already know whether you prefer to work as a family nanny, get a job in a school or a day nursery, or go on to university, most of you say you are not even going to think about looking for a job until the course finishes in July. This is NOT a good idea. All the childcare colleges finish at roughly the same time, so if you wait you will join the queue of newly-qualified people all sending CVs to the same places. Not only that, but, as most agencies will tell you, the job market is at its busiest between May and July because lots of babies are born in those months and, although they may not go back to work until August or September, parents want to recruit and get to know their nannies.
