Going the distance

Two organisations are now offering distance learning courses for people wanting to train as childminders. Both Childcare Study, an online organisation, and the National Extension College (NEC) have developed three distance learning courses for childminders - Introducing Childminding Practice (ICP), Developing Childminding Practice (DCP) and Extending Childminding Practice (ECP) - in partnership with the National Childminding Association.

NEC spokesman Nigel Partridge said, 'Traditional distance learning involves working through a pack of study materials, with assignments to be completed and submitted to a "remote" tutor. Contact with the tutor is usually by post, email or phone.'

Childcare Study is also running distance learning childcare courses for NVQ Levels 2 and 3, and the CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Childminding Practice.
