Five years ago Thomas Hamilton shot dead 16 children, aged five and six, and their teacher, and injured 11 children and three staff members before killing himself. HM Inspectors, in their report published last week, said that in the years following the tragedy the education authority and school staff have had to manage a wide range of particularly sensitive and demanding issues concerning children, parents and the wider community.
The report said, 'In the period since 1996, an extensive network of support has been provided to the school community.
'The exceptional steps taken by the education authority, school and support agencies had sensitively addressed a very wide range of needs and made for very good overall support for pupils.'
