Playgroup gains praise for space

The bright and spacious playroom and the high quality resources at Brora Playgroup in Sutherland are praised in the latest batch of HM inspection reports. Inspectors said the 18 children attending the playgroup enjoyed an interesting and stimulating environment. They also had regular access to the local primary school's gym, a soft ball playroom and a safe outdoor adventure area.

Inspectors said the 18 children attending the playgroup enjoyed an interesting and stimulating environment. They also had regular access to the local primary school's gym, a soft ball playroom and a safe outdoor adventure area.

The quality of the curriculum was also highlighted with children using a wide range of materials and techniques for art and craft and role play activities. The report said, 'Children were acquiring good hand control through a range of appropriate activities including woodwork and through the use of cutlery for snacks. They were developing good skill in running, hopping, throwing and catching. The programme provided very good opportunities for energetic play both indoors and outdoors.' Children at Cupar Pre-school Playgroup, Fife, were found to be happy and relaxed with routines and were encouraged to develop confidence and independence. The report said, 'They showed good consideration of others, took turns and shared toys readily. Children were learning simple rules of hygiene and helped willingly to tidy up.'
