Insuring Epipens

Further to Darinder Sandhu's letter regarding training staff in the correct use of Epipens (Nursery World, 20 July), nurseries and pre-schools should also consider the extent of cover available under the insurance policies for this procedure. A decent insurance policy should cover a nursery for the use of an Epipen.

However, the insurance companies would expect the nursery to have properly trained their staff in the use of the Epipens. Other conditions might also apply.

It is possible that a nursery who had allowed an untrained member of staff to use an Epipen could find that their insurance company refused to cover them for this procedure. Policies vary, so nurseries should contact their insurance broker or company for further guidance on this point.
