Is your club meeting boys' needs?

* Ask the boys (and girls) for their ideas. Encourage them to participate in planning. * Find out what hobbies and interests the boys have and build activities around them.

* If you don't have your own outdoor area, find out what open spaces are available locally.

* Encourage debate between the boys and girls. Ask them, for example, should boys and girls play football together?

* Enable the boys (and girls) to 'own' their play environment by allowing them to decide how they would like the play environment decorated and allowing them to decide what equipment, materials, resources or games should be purchased.

* Give children the time and space to play freely - stand back and allow the children to play on their own.
