This publication is a spin-off from Circle Time and provides a detailed intervention programme for linguistically-vulnerable children. The authors have developed small support circles to help improve some children's language, thinking and communication skills, and emotional literacy.

The book covers Nursery, Foundation (the author's distinction, not mine) and Key Stages 1 and 2, and provides detailed lists of materials, precise instructions for games and activities, and photocopiable resources. The latter are poorly, if jokily, drawn.

The authors are concerned to support children who have problems with the narrow teacher-transmission model of learning that increasingly dominates schools. However, there is a risk their solution will just reflect, on a smaller scale, the same inappropriate needs.
