STAR LETTER

SECTOR MUST RESPECT ITSELF

Having long been a reader of the magazine, I now feel compelled to writein from the viewpoint of a newly qualified practitioner. I work for alocal childminder, who offered me a job after I'd been a student there,and I plan to have my own setting in the future.

There has been much discussion surrounding the lack of respect orunderstanding our work is subject to (I've had reactions ranging from'oh, did you fail your GCSEs'? to 'oh, is that like changing nappies andstuff?') but I have experienced similar frustration with the very peoplewho are supposed to be campaigning on its virtues.
