As a Unison steward, I have advised workers in nursery units and reception classes to take a harder line with employers and not to undertake teachers'

duties. The children will be fine; you are not mistreating them, just refusing to be underpaid dogsbodies. Headteachers rely on emotional blackmail - 'the children will suffer' - to keep you underpaid.

Unless you make a stand, the situation will not change.
