'Making the best of a good job': The role of approved childminding networks in changing practice

'Making the best of a good job': The role of approved childminding networks in changing practice Describes a study of the NCMA approved networks scheme in England, by the NCB's Sue Owen. Among the findings were: (a) childminders in approved networks have a far higher level of childcare qualifications than is the norm for the childminding population; (b) aspects of network activity agreed to make the greatest difference to practice were training and qualifications, support of a dedicated co-ordinator, meeting with other networked childminders, resources and loan schemes, and an increase in status, confidence and self-esteem. The full report will soon be downloadable from www.ncma.org.uk and www.earlychildhood.org.uk.
