Massive spending boost for education

Plans for a massive spending boost for education were expected to be revealed by Chancellor Gordon Brown as Nursery World went to press. He was due to reveal a three-year spending plan for public services which was thought to include an extra 12.5bn over the next three years for schools. This would see British spending on schools and universities exceed American levels, as well as the average for the European Union. See next week's issue for a full report on the Comprehensive Spending Review 2002.
