A boy of five is the UK's youngest person to patent an invention - a labour-saving broom to sweep leaves, reported the BBC. Sam Houghton of Buxton, Derbyshire, was just three when he came up with the double-headed broom to collect large debris and fine dust simultaneously. Sam said, 'I saw Daddy brushing up and made it. There are two brushes, one gets the big bits and one gets the little bits left behind.'

An infamous pub in Salford where two hitmen were shot dead could becomethe venue for a children's centre, said the Manchester Evening News.Property developer Chek Whyte, who last year appeared in Channel Four's'Secret Millionaire' programme, has put in a planning application. Hesaid, 'I would have thought people would be pleased with the idea -something terrible happened there and this would put something back intothe community.'
