Montessori plans new state school

Provision
The first Montessori state primary school to be set up from scratch is being planned by the Montessori Schools Association (MSA).

MSA chief executive Philip Bujak told Nursery World that the primary school would open in 2012 in one borough in east London, which will be announced in the summer.

The charitable arm of the MSA is investing £5m in the scheme.

Mr Bujak said, 'The trustees of the MSA want to open a model Montessori school. It will be funded in the same way as a primary school by the local authority who will run it. We will provide the funding for the building and training.'

'It's a way of testing the Montessori method. We hope we can demonstrate that Montessori can contribute a lot.'
