More childminders using children's centres

More and more childminders are working with their local Sure Start children's centre, according to research by the NCMA in National Childminding Week.

Out of 126 centres surveyed nine out of ten centres were working with childminders.

Training opportunities alongside other centre staff or parents were also available at 82 per cent of centres.

Two-thirds of centres provided drop-in sessions, while three-quarters offered toy libraries.

However, there has been a slight fall in the number of children's centres working with childminding networks since the first survey was carried out in 2006.

Of the 75 centres that worked with childminding networks, 17 were unable to say whether the network was a quality assured network.

Only one third of children's centres had links with an NCMA network co-ordinator.
