National Playday

More than 100,000 children are expected to take part in National Playday, the UK's biggest celebration of children's play, on 6 August. The event is supported by former footballer Gary Lineker, whose favourite place to play as a child was his back garden, where he used to play football. He said, 'I hope the Children's Society will encourage parents to insist that suitable outdoor spaces are available to all children.' More than 2,600 children have been asked about playing outdoors for a joint survey by the Children's Society and the Children's Play Council. For details, visit www.ncb.org.uk/cpc.
