PEOPLE AND PLACES

- Slippery fun

Tomato sauce and spaghetti were the perfect ingredients for messy play in the baby room at Footsteps Day Nursery in Tamworth, Staffordshire, during a session to encourage under-threes to explore their senses and use their imaginations.

- Recycling success

Children at Stanlaw Abbey Community Nursery in Ellesmere Port, Merseyside, have been doing their bit for the environment by recycling paper, cardboard and plastics. The nursery parents meanwhile have been taking part in an environmentally friendly paperless billing campaign, sending invoices via e-mail.

- Heroic creativity

It was Superhero Week at Hatton Hill Day Nursery in Windlesham, Surrey, and children turned up in fancy dress and used computers to design superhero costumes and create stories. Pre-school principal Claire Silva said, 'Everyone enjoyed taking part in the activity, particularly the boys, who were inspired to get into mark-making and storytelling.'
